What is the consensus?
Main Title (unlisted) Written and starring Ramin Djawadi. Let’s say you’re reading these reviews and haven’t watched GoT yet, but now that you’ve finished, you’re thinking about binge-watching it. In this case, the consensus is accurate and reads: Seasons 1-6: excellent. Deep world building, smart dialogue, epic Hollywood setting, professional acting, detailed storyline, real surprises, great soundtrack used sparingly. These seasons of GoT are definitely worth watching.
There are inexplicable thoughts, inconsistent characterization and soap opera dramas
Season 7: You suddenly realize that the writing and plot have drastically dropped in quality. But at least the entertainment value is still very high, so it passes. Season 8: This Fall descends to depths you thought were impossible. The writing has become so amateurish that the still fantastic production values are no longer enough to save it. If you’ve ever enjoyed Lost but were surprised by how bad the last season was, you’re in familiar territory.
Fatal for fiction
The biggest problem with the last season was that it took us out of the story and made us think about her many weaknesses. We have lost our suspension of disbelief. It also ruined the arcs of the series to the point where rewatching the entire series was pointless. So, can I recommend a GoT marathon for newbies? Yes, the first 6 seasons are worth the later disappointments.
However, it is not the best series of all time
It might have been, but dropping the ball in the final stretch puts it behind the next series most worthy of your marathon: Battlestar Galactica (2003-2008) Twin Peaks (all 3 seasons plus the movie) Breaking Bad
