Paternalism, inheritance and the cycle of generational trauma from an Irish cultural perspective
Narrative
A family of Irish shepherds entered the fray on several fronts: internal strife, family enmity, competition with another farmer.
69TH CORK FILM FEST – No3 (PREMIERE + QUESTIONS) A fast-paced revenge film that never gets boring and somehow manages to do the impossible in my opinion
Paul Mescal and Tom Burke were originally slated for the lead roles, but both eventually dropped out when the project stalled, and were replaced by Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott.
They both make much more of their roles than anyone else
All the actors do a fantastic job, but the standouts are Nora-Jane Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott (whose American accent is unreal).
The themes of coercion, violence and the inability to communicate properly merge very strongly here
They’re also very relevant in our world right now, so they really spoke to me.
