Narrative
This documentary follows the lives of a group of young Egyptian girls from a small, very conservative village in Upper Egypt who form an all-female theater troupe despite rejection by their families. In Upper Egypt, being a woman of a different religion from the majority is a triple burden and challenge in itself: Upper Egypt is neglected, Egyptian women struggle to achieve even half-equality, and Christians in Egypt struggle to at least have a place to worship. Amidst all this, a film from the heart of Upper Egypt won the grand prize for Egyptian film at the Cannes Film Festival.
