Narrative
A two-hour window into the heart of Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process, the documentary follows six long years of work on the creation of the Japanese animation master’s latest film, The Boy and the Heron. a moving and funny documentary. Kaku Arakawa is able to closely follow Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process while making The Boy and the Heron. It beautifully combines scenes from Miyazaki’s films with real people involved in the making of the film and people who are/were important to Miyazaki. I saw this film at the Helsinki International Film Festival Love and Amplitude; Anarchy. Some moments made the audience laugh out loud and some moments had people wiping their teeth. I hope Miyazaki is able to make more movies. I cannot recommend this documentary to any ghibli fan.
